Subject: Soybean seed breeding/selecting

ontario
curious about the seed industry specifically soybeans such as how they get the lower heat unit beans? Like now they are growing beans in Manitoba etc.. how did they get the lower heat units?

Do they select plants that mature earlier and keep doing that growing out the seed?

Would it work to save plants that show desirable traits and keep growing them out to produce more seed?
