First thought was to agree with Briggs, but the corn does have the cover crop vs the beans have bare ground. No taller than the corn is, its not really shading the ground, nor is it really at the stage of really high evapotranspiration.

What depth of soil are you measuring? I would say that the corn is drawing from the top 18-24" of soil right now.
