South Dakota | Try the less cowboy way first and use a bucket of cubes to lure him on. I wouldn't make roping one of the options. I've had to rope heifers a few times to a fence post to pull calves when I didn't have facilities available and they always fight it. I can't imagine an animal twice the size of a heifer and full of testosterone to do that with. If you do it, it could be your last agtalk post. Even if a bull is scratchable, you never trust them, that's when the kill you. If he's take enough to be scratched, I give high probability that you can lure him on a trailer, I've also done that a few times. As a guy that's constantly dealing with bad corrals, my advice is find a less risky route. Can you borrow a portable corral? I'd park the trailer along a fence like someone else said, then I'd take some gates, create a funnel into the back of the trailer. Next, I'd walk in front of him with a treat he recognizes and call him, I bet money he'll go right on. | |
