NW Central Ohio | ..In NW Ohio, I have never cut my onion tops off. I harvest when the first bulb folds over. I believe if you don't, the botrytis neck rot becomes more of a problem. This is one of the things the onion grower who was discussing nozzle type and size was spraying for. It doesn't affect the growing onion much at all...but once the onion shuts down, it's already present on the neck...and it will start making your onions into mush very quickly. I'm sure there are several common fungicides that can be used to alleviate the problem. | |
