I wii give another vote to the can am defender although longevity is yet to be determined. Our yamaha grizzly 4 wheelers make 13 to 14000 miles before we get another so that's our goal.
Have a polaris 900 at one site and an 800 defender at another site. The defender turns sharper, goes down 30 inch rows better, is way way easier to get in and out of due to better foot and leg room, and it's easy on gas when eco switch is left on. Polaris seems like a rattling piece of plastic as the defender seems built more robust and rides very nice if you can leave the shocks adjusted down. Also the can am cabs are pretty sweet if you need a cab.....just don't let the wind catch that huge door.
The only plus I will give polaris is that it is easier to service.
On a side note....can't imagine why anyone needs a 1000cc
