| I have a Ford 8530 tractor that is overcharging. New alternator, new regulator, and new battery. Voltmeter on dash is a color-band gauge, reading in the red at high idle.. With a voltmeter connected at the battery and at the alternator output post, it reads 17.5 volts on a short run.. Unplug the regulator and it drops back to 12.
Is there a common area to look for what I assume is a short, or broken wire. It did the same with the old regulator.. Alternator got replaced because the front bearing went out and ruined the housing.
It is a Prestolite/Leece Neville alternator. | |
