I like elemental S. It is similar to lime in that it is made of some fine and some course particles and they breakdown and become available at different rates. This gives a slow release effect throughout the year. The first year you start to use elemental you need to still use some sulfate form of S (AMS or ATS). After that as long as you apply elemental every year the crop should have a steady year long supply. I pay about $540 per ton for elemental so $.30 per pound of S and that is in small quantities.
