Little advice. Some candidates interview well and are not good people for the job. So find out how many jobs they have had and how long they stay at a job. When you do references most times if you are looking at a bad one they will have quit or resigned to avoid being fired. Previous employers will never say the actual truth in order to avoid problems. If you get a good one they stay along time usually. Sometimes a young one starting out is better and cheaper. Also the search firms aren't all that great. You guys can use your own good judgement to determine character. Another thing if you check up on a candidate. If the teachers from past schools don't like them then it probably means that the job is being done and they are making everyone do their job. Maybe ask how they handle problem employees and also do they hire from within the system or do they give everyone a chance. I have watched this process for years. U guys are have a very important job. Picking a leader for the teachers of your kids is very important just as spending the taxpayer money is also. Good luck

what I mean is sometimes when people get into a tenure situation that they can go into coast mode and stop caring about their job. a great superintendent will inspire teachers do improve and care about the young minds they are molding. they will also be respectful of taxpayer money. sorry for the confusion.
