Austin MN | To start out I'm part of a family of aerial applicators as a disclaimer.
Either machine will do a good job if used properly. Biggest complaint with ground rigs is driving down corn. If the operator is good and does his job the damage is minimal.
As for the coverage questions an airplane at 2 gal can do just as good at 10-15 out of a ground rig due to shear volume leaving the aircraft and nozzle designs. Can we get to the ground, maybe but not at 2 gal, maybe 5 gal but I'm gonna charge you more per acre to do that. Typically the bottom leaves of the corn plant have shutdown by that point so no need to protect them
As far as cost we charge $9/acre for 2 gallon work. As far as product residual we have sprayed every labeled product available and at the bottom end of the full rate we see 2 weeks protection. At the full full rate around 3 weeks from all of them.
We personally like generic quilt exel on corn on our own acres. We sprayed for years for a local cannery. They did fungicide tests for years and always came back to quilt as best ROI and we have seen the same too | |
