Subject: Question about pit barrel smoker aka ugly drum smoker

West of Broken Bow
Since I don't have time to fab the parts for a barrel smoker, am buying a kit. A peanut brittle company has nice 55 gal barrels for sale that have only been used once. But they are lined with a red, rust preventive coating.

Am wondering if a good, pre hot burn out after first drilling the hardware mounting holes would take care of any concerns with the coating.

The pre burn is also for burning off the exterior paint.

High heat engine enamel will later be applied to the exterior.
