In a van, down by the river. | Rich- If a producer is offered a profitable price before harvest and chooses to market his crop while using 85% RP coverage as a backstop, knowing full well that in the vast majority of years the best price is made pre-harvest (see Maize for the data...), how is that more of a gamble than the grow-it, bin-it, sell-it plan? Selling ahead eliminates many large risks and replaces them with smaller risks. Over the long haul, the market rewards the folks who are adept at managing that tradeoff, and punishes those who aren't. |
