They kill 440000 head a day and the very next day we all know what the average was for every hog sold. By the time cattle number comes out its ancient history. Just needs a little tweaking

You're nuts, the cattle market is much much much much much (there isn't enough room on this page to put enough "much") closer to an actual market than the hog trade is.
The packers do the reporting, do you honestly believe they report "the whole truth and nothing but the truth"?
We NEVER know the average price paid for every hog they buy. The number of hogs that are represented in those direct hog markets is less than 2% of the daily kill.
The only number that might be factual is the kill number.
Getting rid of delivery on the cattle futures would be a humongous mistake of epic proportion.
