I jumped in with both feet in december on a Phantom 3 Pro. 3 batteries and a couple accessories for under $1k. Easy to fly. Would not trust obstacle avoidance on the p4 but i haven't flown one either. Your mobile device needs to be newish. My moto droid mini phone is not powerful enough, so i have to borrow the wife's ipad to fly fpv.
