Subject: RE: printer ink question

Back at the turn of the century HP was the real deal on printers.

Epsom passed them up somewhere later.

Thrn both companies decided to take on the 'cheap ink refill' outlets, and instead of improving their products, they got into a war of making their print heads more and more finicky to lock out third party ink suppliers. To fund this line of research, they started shipping printers with low levels of ink in the initial cartridges.

Anyhow, both companies were derailed on ink printers by 2010.

Cannon was a good ink printer about then. Made some real nice printers and scanners. I have not kept up on them, if they are still good.

Brother has been a good product the past 5 years or so, nice solid printer that performs.

Ink printers do have an issue.... If you don't use the heads they seal over and the ink stops flowing. Most companies have the printer clean its nozzles once a day or so, keeps the ink fresh. But, that does use a squirt of ink, and if you don't ever print much color, well you empty the cartridge before you use it. It's one of those 6, or half dozen, which way do you want to lose your ink, dried up or shot out? It is difficult to escape this. A laser printer will cost more but avoids some of this.
