Yeah, I'd definitely say it would be a good idea to update software to help improve on both of those then. You can find that update here.  One thing you could maybe even try on your current version, don't remember how far back this went, is to go into your tools page, tap on the GPS icon at the very top and see if you have a reverse sensing check box at the bottom.  You can tap on that to select or deselect reverse sensing when there's no steering connected.
