south east Indiana | I just read a short article in ACRES magazine that spoke about mowing vs crimping. The author - Robert Kinkead said mowing pasture increases space between plants because it allows sun to get to soil increasing moisture loss and soil organism die become dormant or go deeper. He crimps then has several tires pulled behind to spread manure. He says in 2 weeks the green new growth is above what was left. He said he grazes the top third, cattle trod the middle third and bottom third is left. He feels this increases the variety of forages in pasture and contributes to the overall health. | |
