Broke mine on ice December 5th and had surgery on December 9th. 6 screws and a plate.  Got stiches out about 2 weeks later and the another month of no weight bearing.  Late January I got ok to start putting some weight on it in a walking boot.  Took about 2 weeks before going with no crutches and just the boot.  Got the boot off the first week of April.  Had lots of swelling and stiffness. Keep it elevated and iced as much as possible.  Over 6 months later and I still have some swelling and soreness in it.  I am pretty sure I will have them go in next winter and take the plate and screws out as that area is still tender like I was recently kicked in the side of the leg there. When you get out of the waking boot find several sets of good compression socks and wear them anytime you are on your feet.Doctors have told me it may be 6 months to a year before things get back to somewhat normal.
