50 years ago I was in the middle of trying to grow up myself in a less than ideal situation with a verbally and physically abusive father. Took me a long long time to figure out but you never truly get over it, always there.
It is the experiences you have that shape who you are. I am sure that is why in dealing with people, especially children, I try to be as honest and encouraging as possible. I think kids need to experience many things to find those few things they enjoy and are good at then be encouraged to concentrate on those things. To many are busy doing thousands of things without taking time to figure out what they enjoy the most and learning how to be happy with yourself even when alone. Living your life seeking approval is no way to live.
