Faunsdale, AL | The 4420 JD combines were an upgraded 4400. The later 4425 were the ones imported from Germany. The 2WD of any of those small combines with decent tires, will go in the mud just fine. The 4420 takes a 4 row 30 inch 443 head which was made for 20 years or more and uses the same row unit gearboxes, chains and snapping rolls and deck plates as the rest of the 40 series JD heads. Lots of aftermarket stuff available or get it all from Deere.
Our field ready 4420 and the 443 head went down the road for $5000 about 10 years ago now. Neighbor had a few acres of corn he wanted to harvest that year. I doubt they are much cheaper now if you get a good one, but you never know.
Finding a decent flex head for the 4420 might cost a bit. Good flex heads in sizes less than 30 feet seem to have held their value very well. | |
