100 acres now,, he'd have to get awfully big to need a bigger machine than a 4400. Guys around here used to farm 5-600 acres with those machines. We farmed over 900 with a 6600, and over 1000 some years when helping the neighbor.

I dont see how what someone used to do is relevant now. Labor and machine values are very different now. The expectations of landlords, both current and potential, have also changed a great deal.

When it's possible to get larger equipment for the same or not much more money, why would a guy handicap himself by not doing so?
