Seeding covers off the combine is something that interests me and I like your thought process. Have you given much thought to how you might meter the seed, and how/where you would carry it?

The main issue I see with cereal rye specifically is the volume of seed you need to put down... seems like you either need a big enough seed hopper that you're adding quite a bit of size and weight, or else have to refill often (slowing the combine down).

Seeding with the combine seems more practical if you're using small seed species, though the studies I've seen indicate most of those can be prone to significant stand reduction from lingering residual herbicides. I'm not real excited about the risk of giving up in-season weed control for the sake of planting covers, so I'm probably going to stick with rye through a drill for the time being.
