Subject: RE: Biggest Tile Main you can get

NE IL
We have successfully used drainage structures in situations like this. We would tee into the main with like a 8" tile that leads to a 48" open riser. (yes, 48 inch). Could use steel culvert pipes, concrete municipal type pipes, or just real big dual wall pipe as the riser. Plumb that 8" into the side of it, but make sure to have the riser go about a foot deeper than the bottom the 8", so you can keep the tile clean. You can then build a big grate or something to go on top of it for trash and safety so equipment doesn't fall in.

The large riser allows the tile to use the water pressure of a large surface area to force water down the 8", and also allows for air to get in so that it can run full. I don't know the physics behind why it works, but it has worked great for us. We have got two of them now. First one came from a project designed by NRCS, second we put in with a local tile crew, planning a couple more now.
