It depends where you're getting the update from. If you got the software from the GS Live Update, then it won't be in a .gst format and you can just plug your stick into the display and update the receiver. If you downloaded a receiver software as a stand alone (typically this is for dealer personnel) then you would need to extract it and it is a .gst format.
