Subject: Fertilizer Incorperation

NE Ohio
Went on my lunch break to the local co-op and got a truck load of fertilizer, 5-14-42. Was talking to a couple of guys waiting to get loaded and one said that he spreads all of his fertilizer then chisels it in. He said that he chisels 8" deep and it gets the nutrients more in the "root zone". I have always chiseled first, we do 8" deep also (a lot of shallow tile and some clay). Depending on how rough the ground is, either spread fert then hit it with a field cultivator, or field cultivator first, spread fert then field cultivator again. So id say im mixing it in the top 2-3 inches, where he is mixing it down to 8". Is there more of a benefit to this?
