Yes old saying around here about when it is time to plant
Does not make any difference if the ground is too wet but probably a good cue that things are getting warm enough to get at it.

We have been seeing them back earlier in recent years than we used to.
In my past starting corn planting before May 1st was just not done and swallows did not normally show until the second week of May.

Another old saying was planting when the leaf of the oak tree was as big as a squirrels ear.
Do not think we have met that goal yet this year but other trees are greening up quickly now.

Then there was the agronomist who used to say do not plant your corn until you could sit on the ground with your bare bum and feel comfortable.
A sunny day like we had today i think the ground might have felt comfortable enough, if only it was dry enough.
