Oklahoma | Everything is tagged in both ears. I do this for 2 reasons. 1 if one falls out I have a back up. 2 when I sort cattle I sort from left to right and right to left depending on the corral at each pasture. There's nothing worse than trying to sort and you can't see the tag because it's on the other side. Calf number matches cow number. Info on the tag is number, my name, my phone number and my brand. I also do alot of color coding to age cows. For example my red and blue tag cows are on social security. My Orange and white tags are middle aged and green tags are young cows. I don't put calving dates on calf tags although I have thought about it. I keep that info in my calving books and my phone. Not perfect but it works for my program. | |
