Yeah that $7 an acre we got in 2016 and $9 in 2015 really made a lot of difference.
It's funny how steaks in the grocery store are still 50-100% higher than they were when cattle were at all time highs. Be really nice to take advantage of this run up...but we sold calves two months ago.
If you were working in town at $15 an hour @ 2000hrs a year, you earned $30,000.
$9/acre @ 2000 ac = $18,000. Over and above farm profits.
That's a $9/hr paycheck from the government to work (assuming the average farmer works 2000hr/yr)
Not saying right or wrong, but it's what the typical American (non-farmer) sees. And then complain about it? No wonder farmers get a bad name. |
