west central illinois | Well let's see. During the lowest grain prices in history in the 90's and early 2000's came the largest livestock consolidation in history. Cheap grain doesn't make livestock profitable. Anyone who believes it does hasn't been doing it very long. It's why the packers control 100% of the livestock sector. Poultry and pork especially. There are zero independent hog farmers here now. You either grow for maschoff or JBS.
We have 200 head of cows. Birth to finish. Buying expensive fats to finish is why guys aren't profitable.
