Dairy farmers pay 15 cents a cwt. for promotion. 10 cents goes to state funds, 5 cents goes to national level. Dairy importers also pay 7.5 cents a cwt. So if you roughly figure on my little dairy it amounts to around $23 or more per cow per year depending how much milk you produce vs. a $1.50 a head beef checkoff for when a calf is sold or cull cow. Plus dairymen also pay beef check off right along with the beef guys in our state. Dairymen also have guaranteed seats on our beef council board in Idaho.

Here in Idaho, Dairy promotion is alive and well here. At all sporting events High school level they give a lot of money, also free milk is handed out at state competitions. Lot of grant money is available to schools for sporting events, etc. Free product to schools at local level.

Last time I stayed out of town in major population area in Idaho, I watched local news on T.V. all I saw was dairy ad after dairy ad on T.V. at the prime time 5-6 p.m. news time. However me being from a rural area, and my news comes from another state where I live, I never see those ads. I thought it was quite refreshing.

As I've stated before the masses that advertising is focused to, doesn't watch much T.V. they get a lot of info off their smart phones. via blogs, FaceBook, social media, etc. you name it. Magazines, newspapers are about a thing of the past. Still quite a bit of advertising on local radio.

I see a lot of milk ads from California and Idaho & Utah here
