In my opinion, and I am far from an expert, calving ease if far more than just calf live birthweight. Now you are seeing CED EPDs in the red angus breed (calving ease direct). I'm not sure if other breed associations are doing the same. In this area, most bull testing programs are getting pelvic measurements. We like to not only look at the EPDs but also the females past track record.

We've been using calving ease bulls for the past 20 years. Our entire herd are all direct descendants from our original 4 that we purchased in 1997. We've only AI'd and purchased bulls. I think keeping good calving records allows for the best selection of replacements as we see trends from different cow families.

This is a great topic and I hope that I can learn a lot from what others have to say. As there is always room for improvement.
