I want a lariat rope that will hold a 1500 lb live cow on a dead pull.

Trick is to not give them a running start. If you have them on a long slack line and they take off try and give a yank on it before they get to the end to snap it. Or rope them long tie the other end, then reel them in bit by bit either by pulling the cow/ tighten the rope, or if you can walk them in closer bit by bit as you pull in the slack. The snapping comes from the running start, the ropes will take a lot of strain otherwise.

Pretty hard on a (esp calving) cow to get her up to 25mph and then have the rope come tight around her throat, almost better if it does snap at that point rather than have her ass pass her head on the way by.
