Ontario | i have 2 500GB drives in mine that i've been using for about 10 years now. have another that's used only to backup stuff that's gotta be 20 years old and still going strong. of course newer is usually better but nothing wrong with old hard drives.
as for losing things to power outages and such yeah that can be an issue. usually the power supply will take the hit and save everything else but sometimes everything could be fried. i've been lucky and only ever lost power supplies and have then went on to use the rest of the system for years without issue. a bad power supply can also destroy a system very quickly so it's best not to use the system if you suspect the power supply is having issues. with laptops it's tricky since so few parts are replaceable and those that are often aren't worth the cost | |
