So I am rethinking my fertilizer management plan for P and K this year on some corn acres. I a have a few small fields with a very low CEC, Top 6" has a CEC of 2 and soil at 18" has a CEC is 3. Ph at the surface 6" is 6.2 and 5.4 ph at the 18" depth if it matters. I already have my nitrogen figured out since we get so much rain here, (50+ inches a year) it has always been a spoon feed situation. So I guess my main question is when do you guys normally spread your P and K on sand? I was thinking of waiting closer to planting this year and my soil test has very low P and K numbers...like 7lbs per acre low! I am trying to be more efficient with fertility in these fields. This is no-till corn with a dead cover crop of annual ryegrass and radish also so all of my P and K is surface broadcast. Thanks for any feed back! |
