Subject: Arctic Cat ATV good or bad?

South Central Idaho
Looking at some Arctic Cat ATV's. Particularly the 300-500cc models. I was wondering if anyone has ran them and how they compare to Honda recons and Suzuki King Auad 400's? We got a new dealer in town and they being quite aggressive to get a foot in the door.

Thanks!

I am on my third one. Had a 2001 which was a 400, a 2006 which was a 500, and currently have a 2014 that's a 700EFI. I have had no problems with any of them. My buddy is the local dealer for them and he doesn't see many through the shop for anything major. They seem to hold up well around here........even with the guys that don't have maintenance/service as a high priority. Dad has a side by side 700 and he hasn't had any issues either. It's an older one too.....I think 2007. I wouldn't be scared of them. Don't know much about the Kind Quads or Hondas for comparison........ Hope this helps.

My neighbor has several and likes them. If you have a dealer you can depend on staying around I wouldn't be worried....only one dealer 40 miles from here though. I would avoid the small 300 .....it is a Taiwan made atv with Arctic Cat decals. May be the same atv as the 300 Yamaha and Kawasaki.

Not a direct answer, but our two Arctic Cat 400's (~2005's) are more reliable than our Polaris 500 (~2010's).  They are also easier to ride than the Polaris.  The Polaris has a softer ride, but your hips will hurt after a day of working with it.  The seat and foot rests are too wide (and we are 200+ lb, 6'2"+ guys).  It's like riding a hippo after a few days of pasture spraying.  Truthfully, we hop on the older Cats before the Polaris.  I would not be afraid of an Arctic Cat (although you can see we haven't bought a new one for over a decade).  They've all come from private sales.

i say they are a good atv but not a fan of the new atvs though, I still have our first one we bought new in 1998 Arctic Cat 500 4x4 manual that now has 5556 miles on it and been a great farm hand for every job and some jobs that you should used a tractor but the atv gets the job down. If you keep up on the service that atv well last you as long as you want it to last.

Have three 2009 700H1 EFIs bought new in 2010 as carry overs.

All we've done is regular oil changes and a spark plug when they don't start right up.

Wouldn't be scared to add a fourth one.

I've got a 2012 450 cat I bought used with about 4000 miles on it. I've had very good service out of it for the time I've had it. Just the other day it wouldn't crank and finally I whacked the starter solenoid under the seat and it cranked right up. I also had a fluke deal where one of the front brake lines rubbed the wheel and rubbed a hole.

Things I especially like about it; #1 and most important, FUEL INJECTION. 2nd thing it really scoots and the variable speed drive is smooth and really hooks up. 3rd it has 4wd and low range which I find useful all the time.

Things I really don't like about it #1 and biggest gripe is it is NOISY. The engine just has a lot of vibration and is noisy. It also makes a lot of heat. So doing something like spraying or fence work it can really wear on you after a while. Also the brakes are squeaky in all the dust we deal with.

I like the independent suspension on the rear most of the time, but if you want to turn quick and gun it to spin the back end it really wants to bite in and grip, you have to be really careful. I'm used to the older solid axle ATVs you can drift the back end to make a quick turn. Not with this one. (Mostly this maneuver is chasing wild cattle and needing to whip back around quick.)

We've got a 375 (next year they called them the 400) and we have 2013 550.   Both are reliable but my one complaint about Arctic Cat is they will screw you on parts prices.  Unbelievable what they want and it doesn't even bother them.
