Subject: A Tale of Two Farms

Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana
Or...........Maybe a tale of progress or a fad that will be gone in a few years.

The top two photos represent the new......

I've got a few acres of cover crop on my farm which looks pretty good this year. I dug a few radishes yesterday before the weather turns bad. I wanted to see what they have done this fall. The two middle size represent the majority, with a few of the "big Boys" scattered all over the field. I like the looks of the cover crop.

That said, the bottom two photos represent the majority of my fields........sprayed and bare as a baby's butt.

It's strange when I look back over the years how things have changed. When I started farming we plowed everything in the spring.....then we started plowing in the fall.....then sometime in the mid 70's to early 80's the first Glenco Soil Saver showed up on the farm. That has been followed in the past 10-15 years with a sprayer and no-till..........now cover crops.

I guess things just keep changing.
