Subject: Corn Disease?

Hello to all. Let me start this post by saying that I'm not real familiar with Corn Diseases. So, today I was signing up a clients wheat crop insurance, and we started talking about his corn. He mentioned a disease in the area in some Dekalb corn. He said that the cob was mushy, but the kernals seemed fine. Supposedly he heard that with the mushy cob, if this was prevalent in his field then he would have lots of header loss. He could only find one ear that was like this, but I don't think he did a lot of searching either. He couldn't remember the name of the disease he was told, but thought maybe it ended with -plosion, or -deplosion. Again, I don't know a lot about corn diseases, but wondered if you guys had seen this before, and if you could tell me anything about it. TIA.

BTW, this is located in eastern marshall county, kansas.
