Subject: Planting NOT So Green - Problems?

I planted a covercrop of cereal rye, radish, crimson clover, and rape at soybean leafdrop last fall. The cereal rye has done extremely well. Wanted to drill soybeans by the middle of May while the rye was still lush and green. Due to all the rain I will start tomorrow. However, the rye is fully headed out and maturing. My neighbor, a retired farmer, tells me that this will absolutely NOT work. Can you guys give me your advice. TIA.
