A few of things to keep in mind:
-The more axis of tilt compensation, the better performance you will see, no questions asked.
-Once RTK is stretched beyond 6 miles, the correction signal strength decreases. The amount of decrease varies on a number of factors and as Ron has mentioned, the quality of signal correction can still be excellent beyond 10 miles.
-Many times high-end non-RTK systems (HP, SF2, etc.) will give you excellent pass-to-pass accuracy but perform poorly in terms of repeatability when compared to RTK. That is probably what your cousin is running into with his system. The repeatability quality will increase in the future as more satellite constellations come live and the quality of GPS receivers increase to go along with the new satellite constellations but, in the end, RTK will always have the edge on repeatability.
-Even though the concept of RTK is the same no matter what color paint, the quality of an RTK system can and does vary depending on the paint color. If you want to really compare system quality to system quality, start looking at what systems are used in the construction industry and what systems are used by the military.

When you refer to OmniSTAR, are you referring to their XP or HP signal?
Are you considering a move to controlled traffic?
What all will your operation consist of: strip till, sprayer, combine, etc?
