I borrowed a bandsaw from a friend for a couple projects I have. It's an older Johnson Model B. The blade runs towards you when your standing in front of the saw. All other saws I have used the blade runs towards the back when cutting. And it takes a long time to cut through a 2x4 tube.
Is something off with this one or is it right?

Is it a 3 phase unit that could be wired up wrong?
If you swap one power wire on 3 phase, the motor runs the other direction and maybe th eblade is running backwards at that point.
Did you check to see what way the blade was pointing?

I have never seen one run toward the front, they have always ran towards the stationary part of the vise. If it's a tilt unit (with a hinge at the back and you lift the front) it would be pushing the blade into the metal too hard. A horizontal lift unit might not matter as much.

That does not sound right or like any metal band saw I have ever seen. The cut should be towards the fixed part of the metal holding vise.
I found the manual, so check out what is says. I suspect it was wired wrong or assembled wrong. It might be in Chinese-English which is a little odd at times.

If I wanted to switch it to cut towards the back, would if be just a matter of wires on the motor? I believe in my old furnace I did that after I bought a new motor once.

There should be a wiring diagram on the motor's ID tag or maybe inside of the junction box that explains how to wire the motor for different rotation. The saw manual may have on too. Here is an old thread on the subject of electric motor rotation, and how to determine CCW from CW rotation. This is probably caused the problem.
Aside, don't just love to borrow something and then end up having to fix it and make it operate correctly. :-)

There used to be a tag inside the junction box but it's gone and faded now.
I have 7 wires in the j box, they are labelled as follows.
7,3,8 are joined
1,2,5 are joined and hooked to black
6 is hooked to white
Does this mean much to someone without me pulling the motor apart and tracing them? Right now it turns CCW looking from the back.
