In a custom work environment, the value of Apex (or any other software you use) will depend on the data entry in the field. If you do enough setup to make it stop squawking and just get spraying - the records you get out of Apex will reflect this. It will get you some basic totals etc, but not much more than that. You could use Apex to setup some common tank mixes etc, leaving the farm and field names when you get to the field.

The operators I work with are split 50/50. Half do all the data entry, mostly in field and they use the info in their record keeping. The other half put in enough info to make it work and drive on - keeping the records elsewhere. I pull the odd map off from time to time for the guys that dont use Apex. Your decision depends on if you see any use for the data, and if you have any time to put into it.
