Subject: RE: KitchenAid Pro 600 mixer: don't make them like they used to?

The astounding thing to me is the number of ways I have seen them fail in the videos. You would think if there was a weak point they would all fail the same way. But they seem to have all kinds of different failure points. It is as if they carefully designed each part to fail somewhere in between 4 and 10 years of normal use from the purchase date.

I guess I would not be irritated if they advertised it as a mixer that could only do cake batters and maybe at the most cookies. If they would have advertised it like that we would have gotten something smaller that can do the job just as well and cost a lot less (like a hand mixer).

They advertise it as a quality kitchen tool that should last a lifetime and it comes standard with a dough hook. It says on the website that it will yield 8 loaves of bread. We wouldn't dream of doing 8 loaves at a time (maybe 2?). Maybe they meant that it will handle 8 loaves of bread in its lifetime? If so I guess we got out money's worth:)
