Depends on what your S/O wants to spend. I like the Phantom, I'm flying a 3DR Solo lately. Kind of spendy ($1k for the Solo, $400 gimbal, $400-500 for a GoPro, $150 batteries). But, a likable copter. If you're just planning on doing aerial photos and scouting, I'd probably go with the Phantom.
