| I have been planting corn in to standing rye for 5 years as well. What you have to remember is rye will take up nitrogen and it will take nitrogen to break down that rye. I would not use anhydrous as a nitrogen sources because you have to bury it deep to make it effective and not lose it. Anhydrous will not help with the nitrogen or carbon penalty created at the surface of a cover cropped rye field. The nitrogen taken up by the rye and used to break the rye down will be released later in the growing season. Have enough nitrogen up front to cover the penalty by the rye and supply the young corn plant. If this is taken into account we have never had a problem planting into any height of cereal rye. | |
