Based on the clearances you describe, I'd remove the pump and heli-coil it. While the epoxy trick might work, the heli-coil is a much better and stronger option. It will be stronger than it was originally.
Caution: If you've never used a heli-coil before, don't let this pump housing be your first try. You really only have one good shot at it.
