Subject: JD 4440 charging system problem

Eastern Ontario
The alternator has been overcharging for quite some time now with different alternators installed. We seemed to deal with this by turning all the light on all the time. But now the darn thing discharges when not in use. Took off the 1 and 2 lead from the alternator and the batteries stayed charged. Done some tests. The 1 lead or resistance wire has 12 volts when disconected from alternator but when put back on it will only give 0.2 V ,should be 2-9 V( key switch on ). Book tells me there is an open circuit from there to the keyswitch. Did a continuety check and the lead seems fine. Now, this tractor has got what's called a "Service Wire Resistance Kit" installed. ( picture below ) Could it be that the rectifier (2) is broken? And how do I go about testing it? I'm in the dark when it comes to electrics.
