Subject: RE: Easement for pipeline

I don't think the companies really pay any for easements but they do have to pay for damage to the soil and crop when they work in the easement. Highest number I have heard is in Quebec, Canada where they paid 4000 per acre for the use of the land for the year. Seems like alot but digging down 10 feet or more and big holes near roadways and ditches where they drilled the holes will not grow a good crop for almost 10 years. So you might as well take a good lump sum because they are hard to reach when there is no work going on in the field.
Now before you sign any papers for easement, make sure you have the still have the right to work and grow a crop on the easement, you are allowed to cross the easement with bigger machinery and make sure they keep the easement well drained since they usually like to keep tile drainage about 40 feet from the pipeline making is 80 feet apart from one side of pipeline to the other side.
