I think most of the base stations and rovers are defaulted to 8 degrees now. I think the problem with it set higher is that you might not see 5 satellites and the autopilot will not allow guidance if you have less than 5 satellites in view. It might not be a perfect signal but it is better than waiting on the end of the field.
