Wi | First time I've heard of that.
CJ-4 was developed for more modern emissions engines particularly those with a DPF. It uses low-SAPS tech to reduce the potential production of ash that could clog DPFs. This is the biggest concern and reason for the requirement of CJ4 in more modern engines.
It is backward compatible though. One concern some may have is the lower TBN some of the CJ4 oils have, this was partially due to the switch to ULSD.
Them stating it's due to the EGR seems contradictory to everything you hear otherwise. CJ4 is better at handling soot and more extreme conditions, both of why are present in an EGR motor.
I wouldn't worry about changing, but could be wrong. I don't think they are going to deny a warranty claim but you could check into that as its always a way for them to get out of soomething.
Does it just recommend using CI-4 or prohibit the use of CJ-4? | |
