Another vote for the Miller 211. When my miller 250 quit after 20 years and needed a $850 circuit board I picked up the 211 and am very impressed with it. The small size and relatively light weight, 80 lbs, were factors for me also as I often move it to my dads farm for projects. The welder is very capable of the 3/8 steel it claims to be able to weld and 1/2 would probably be possible under the right conditions. The auto set even seems to work well although you can set it manually if you want. Guy at welder shop said about 200 amps is all that .035 wire is good for so unless you want to run .045 wire you can't take advantage of a 250 amp welder anyway. When I was using my Miller 250 with .035 wire i never turned the power up all the way. Then if you run .045 wire you struggle welding thin metal. They had a farm show special going when I got mine, it ran about $1050 if I remember correctly. Need a tank also.
