Near-north Ontario, French River | We used to be set up to drop dry on both sides of the row and dribble liquid in furrow. We ran rawson coulters 3 inches off to the side, with dry knives following the coulters. To split the fert we had Kearney install simple inverted "Y" splitters at the dry box. Never really checked if the split was 50/50 but I think it would be close. Nice things is if one knife plugged the other took up the slack. We started out 2 inches off to the side but in heavy crusted clay the knives , even though offset front to back 6 inches, would lift the crusted slab between the rawsons... row cleaner would come along and toss the slab off to the side leaving a bit of a trench which was affecting seed and fert placement. Last year we switche to single Aulari opener, would have like to run 2 per row but $$$ became an issue. If you've got room and $$$, or used openers I wouldn't hesitate to run dry on both sides of the row. |
